Description
1919: The First World War is over. Inflation, poverty and political tension threaten to tear the young
Weimar Republic apart. In this age of turmoil, architect Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus in Weimar - a revolutionary art school that
became a breeding ground for the renewal of painting, architecture, music and society and still shapes our idea of art and design
today.
The student Dörte Helm actually wanted to become a book illustrator. After hearing
Gropius talk about the art and architecture of the future, a new life begins for her. Layer by layer she frees herself from the corset
of her time and finds her way as a woman, artist and activist. The opponents of the Bauhaus form up and gain influence, Gropius has to
fight for his ideas with all means. In this feverish atmosphere Dörte Helm and Walter Gropius get closer until a coup takes place and
the dead lie on the streets of Weimar.
