A Forgotten Icon of Bauhaus Design

The Rowac Stool is a milestone in industrial Bauhaus design. Introduced in 1909, it was the first riveted steel stool, setting a new standard in functionality and ergonomics.

Architects like Walter Gropius chose it for iconic projects such as the Bauhaus Dessau. It stands for durability, simplicity, and the principles of modern functionalism.

Riveted to Last

Unlike welded joints that crack under pressure, riveted frames allow flexibility and resilience. Reinforced with cross-bracing, the stool maintains a lightweight yet robust structure. Many originals are still in use today, more than 100 years later.

Crafted in the Ore Mountains

Rowac’s factory began production in Chemnitz in 1888, near the Ore Mountains. After 1946, production ceased—until now. Our authentic reissues are handcrafted within 40 km of the original site using regional materials and traditional techniques.

A New Role as Bar Stool

With a 75 cm seating height, the stool was once used to operate machines. Today, it’s the perfect bar stool. A second crossbar adds foot support and reinforces the frame, blending heritage with modern living.
