Description

The Swiss artist Johannes Itten (1888-1967) was not only a pioneering art theoretician and prominent master at the Bauhaus, but he also left behind a comprehensive and diverse body of work, only excerpts of which are still known today. The entire spectrum of his artistic oeuvre is comprehensively catalogued and honoured in the opulently illustrated catalogue raisonné.

Paintings, graphics, sculptures, textiles and furniture - Johannes Itten was an extraordinarily versatile artist who, during his six decades of creative work, also produced one of the most important colour teachings of the 20th century. His artistic oeuvre is being scientifically catalogued for the first time on the basis of 120,000 biographical documents and sources and, compared to the 1972 catalogue raisonné, is expanded by more than 1000 works from all creative periods. The three-volume catalogue raisonné provides a complete overview of Johannes Itten's artistic cosmos for the first time, with the most up-to-date provenance research, exhibition and bibliography.

Christoph Wagner teaches as professor of art history at the University of Regensburg. His research on the Bauhaus and modern art has made him internationally renowned. He is an elected member of the Academia Europaea (London).
